Early Cordis

[It's a day into Cordis, and while Ranpo's been busy with moving into his new house with Atsushi, there's someone he needs to pay a visit.]

[Well, and also bring over a bunch of food, because he knows how Cordis is. And from the lingering memories of their journey to the future, he knows how Yukio is. Man cannot live on energy bars alone.]

[It's not too hard to figure out where he's living, and so here he is, a cat boy knocking on Yukio's door with a big bag of snacks and take out.]

[Yukio doesn't have any idea who's going to be knocking on his door. Not Rin, because Rin would text him first.

So he opens it and blinks for a second, caught completely off-guard.]

Oh, Ranpo-san. [This is weird, made weirder by how normal it feels.]

Come in? [Because that feels right. Yukio is very much overwhelmed by Cordis right now, which for him always means (or did mean, in that future) he's feeling extremely driven to just stay at home and do nothing but cuddle and snack, preferably in a pile of blankets.

He's not dressed properly for visitors, pyjama pants and an oversized sweatshirt, hair that hasn't been brushed since Cordis started.]

I'm sorry, [He drags a hand though his hair like that's going to fix it.] I wasn't expecting visitors.

Don't mind if I do, Yukio-kun! And please-- I figured you wouldn't.

[This subtle burn tho--]

But that's all the more reason I wanted to stop by! I know how tough cordis can be when you're new and don't know a lot of people yet. And if you're not moonlacing, you'll have to eat a lot to compensate! So I brought lunch, and some things for the next few days!

[--"things" being gift cards for food delivery, because Ranpo is here too, and this bag of food will last a few hours tops.]

It has been tough, so far. [He just wants to stay in bed? And eat snacks? In bed???? He wants to hug people? He cried on Rin's shoulder??? It's all bad.]

Thank you for the help. I've been able to moonlace with my brother, but I didn't get the chance to really get to know anyone else here before Cordis started. [And obviously, just the handholding and hugging level of moonlacing.] So my funds are lower than I would like.

You don't have to thank me! What are future-friends for?

[Weird that this is technically their first time meeting -- and yet it doesn't really feel that way at all, for all that they don't remember too much about each other anymore. But that's fine. It's hardly a roadblock as far as Ranpo is concerned.]

But say-- if you need help moonlacing, we could cuddle while we eat? Maybe we can play a game or something to actually get to know each other for real!

[He gestures at the couch for them to sit as he starts pulling out the food (sorry it's fast food), and won't hesitate to cuddle up right next to Yukio. He's briefly considers stretching across his lap, but-- well, maybe later.]

[But more importantly-- he purrs the moment he's sitting down.]

Hmm, how about two truths and a lie? That's always a fun one!

Ah, but depending on how much you remember about me-- it might not be a very fair one.

[Ranpo Edogawa. Master detective.]

[Something something special ability to see the truth maybe?? Probably vague.]

I remember you don't need a game to learn a lot about someone. [He says, after sitting down next to Ranpo on the couch.

Yukio's own purr starts up in response to Ranpo's. A feedback loop of purring.

But Yukio isn't entirely comfortable, not yet, and he's sitting slightly stiffly on the couch.]

[Ranpo will graciously give him a whole five minutes before he goes for a shoulder nuzzle.]

That's right! Why-- even without those vague memories of the future, I've already figured out a lot about you.

Like how I bet you weren't the cuddly type back home! But that one's pretty obvious.

Is it really that obvious? [Yukio is trying not to make things awkward, he's trying not to rush directly into hugging someone who really is almost a stranger, he's not comfortable with any of this but it's Cordis and he just wants to cuddle with someone.]

[sweetsleuth]

To anyone else? Only a little. To me? I figured it out before I came here. Your personality doesn't really lend to the kind of guy who would be down to hug or cuddle just anybody, so I figure a lot of this is probably because it's cordis.

But hey! At least cordis isn't as bad as the other two, so being heavily under its influence isn't so bad!

[Unless you go Kitsune, that is, but he'll just. Leave that part out.]

[Yukio is still purring, quietly. Even though he's sort of wrinkling his nose at the idea of the other moons, and of cordis not being "so bad".]

I don't think I could stand being an iris moonblessed. [Sanguis... he might be able to manage, somewhat.]

...iris is definitely the worst. I don't think I know anyone who actually likes it. Even when it's mild, you still have to deal with it longer than the others, since the iris moon is full for longer.

[Since it goes right into the triple moon, it arguably just stays full the whole time.]

Sanguis isn't too bad sometimes. I think it depends on whether it fits your personality or not -- if you're already kinda bloodthirsty or violent, it's not that much of a difference.

Do people switch moonblessings? [He asks, but... he's absolutely looking over at Ranpo's hands. Come on. Hold hands with him.]

[sweetsleuth]

[Can't hold hands, too busy holding burger.]

It happens, but it's pretty rare. No one I know has ever switched, and I've never heard it happening more than once to one person.

But it's been less than two years since moonblessed appeared, so... it's hard to say what kind of pattern that could be.

[reflash]

[Ugh. He wants to hold hands.

But also there are burgers, and he's starving. He'll grab one of those instead of grabbing for Ranpo.]

I wonder if it's random, or if there's a pattern. The initial assignments, I mean.

[sweetsleuth]

Hmm, that's hard to say! But I know some people whose moonblessings seem to fit them pretty well. Like Yosano-san, who was already kinda violent, turning Sanguis. And Atsushi, who can actually turn into a tiger, being Cordis. Or Lovecraft-san, who already has tentacles, turning Iris.

[Just saying this wacky shit with a straight face nbd.]

... like the authors. [Yukio says, because all of his filter under cordis is focused on not asking Ranpo to hold hands.

oh actually even if is like the authors, that's rude to bring up, so he's going to shove some hamburger in his mouth so he doesn't say anything else]

Ah, that's right, your world is one of those... no one I just mentioned is an author, but a lot of people from my world seem to share the names of authors in other worlds. I'm pretty used to it by now.

Have you ever thought about writing?

No way! I don't have the patience for something like that.

I wrote a short poem for one of my boyfriends for his birthday, and it took me three days.

[And it did not reflect three days worth of work, even if the smile it brought was worth the effort.]

[Yukio probably should be a little more caught off guard by that statement, but he does have that faint memory of ten years later, and that fits the feeling he has about Ranpo.]

Did he appreciate it?

Of course he did! But he probably would have liked it regardless of quality.

[Yukio finishes his burger as he considers the options.]

I think your favorite ice cream flavor is not vanilla.

[Ranpo was probably a teen detective, and he has more than one boyfriend. Three seems possible, if improbable.]

Vanilla is the optimal ice cream flavor that goes well with every kind of topping.
